San Clemente, CA – Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, a nonprofit southern California cultural center, welcomes Broadway star Ivan Rutherford to perform for its annual fundraising gala on Friday, March 24, 2017. Casa Classic: An Evening with Ivan Rutherford will support performing arts and cultural programs for people of all ages in Orange County, and is the cultural center’s second largest fundraising event. The cabaret-style evening features a live performance by Rutherford along with a catered dinner, fine wine, and a live auction. An Evening with Ivan Rutherford is chaired and underwritten by Mr. and Mrs. Standiford and Noel Cahan Helm. The Casa Classic series as a whole is underwritten by Fluidmaster. Jim Kennedy Photographers and Lynne Lucente Floral Designs are the event’s service partners.
“Having Ivan Rutherford in this intimate setting is something you can only experience at Casa Romantica,” says Casa Romantica Executive Director Berenika Schmitz. “Bringing a Broadway star to San Clemente is a once-in-a-lifetime-experience for our audience.”
The intimate fundraiser is limited to 100 guests, and has completely sold out two months in advance. The event has sold out every year for the past three consecutive years since its inception. Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens has a goal of raising over $15,000 at this preeminent event.
Ivan Rutherford
Ivan Rutherford has performed the role of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables over 2,300 times on Broadway and national tours. He was nominated for Best Actor for his role, Jean Valjean, at the First Annual National Broadway Theatre Awards. The Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post have praised him “as an actor who handles [roles] with assurance and cherubic countenance.”
Rutherford has played major roles in other productions such as The Caliph in Kismet, Tony in Westside Story, Lt. Joe Cable in South Pacific, and Officer Charles Lightoller in the Broadway production of Titanic. He is known for his mastery of musical and jazz standards in his popular one-man performances, for which he now tours nationally.
Casa Classic series
Casa Romantica’s Casa Classic performance series features the work of internationally-recognized artists. Recent artists have included Garrick Ohlsson, an award-winning classical pianist; Ann Hampton Callaway, a multi-platinum-selling singer; and the Christchurch Cathedral Choir from Oxford University.
An Evening with Ivan Rutherford is Friday, March 24, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM at Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens. General admission is $165 and includes dinner and fine wine. VIP admission is $250 and includes an exclusive Meet-the-Artist champagne reception. A live auction will follow Rutherford’s performance.
