San Clemente, CA – Eyes twinkled as members of the San Clemente community and beyond spilled into Casa Romantica’s historic Main Salon on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 7:00 PM. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and wine, while eagerly sitting at the edges of their seats to witness one of the cultural center’s most highly anticipated events: the Casa Captivating Season Preview.
The evening began with a presentation by Executive Director Berenika Schmitz and staff highlighting the successes of the 2015-2016 Casa Captivating season and discussing future plans for the 2016-2017 season, including the unveiling of a refurbished 150-seat amphitheater, which will host future Casa Cool concerts. After the announcement, guests were transported to the Ocean Terrace where internationally renowned violinist Aya Kiyonaga gave a sunset performance with a sampling of works from her upcoming concert. She will be playing at Casa Romantica on October 6, 2016 at 7:00 PM.
The new season will commence with the Casa’s preeminent annual fundraiser, “Toast to the Casa” on September 24, 2016 in the form of a Venetian masquerade ball. In addition to revisiting such annual favorites as Casa Nutcracker, the Mary Colby Tea and Fashion Show, and the Holiday succulent wreath workshop, the Casa will offer new hands-on workshops in plein air painting, tea blending, and sushi making. We will host Orange County educational professionals James Doti and Erwin Chemerinsky in our CASA UP CLOSE series, and will welcome Ivan Rutherford, who has played Jean Valjean in Les Misérables on Broadway over 2,300 times in the spring for our CASA CLASSIC series. Casa Romantica’s 2016-2017 season will not only uphold tradition through its programming, but will also be groundbreaking, as London-based artist Rebecca Louise Law will create a floral art installation in our gallery, and a contemporary dance collective will perform commissioned pieces in various on-site locations.
We look forward to seeing our community at 2016-2017 Casa Captivating events.
