“…the soundtrack for The Odd-Essy is a hodgepodge, chosen by how well each one advances the story, whether it’s “Under the Sea” when the Sirens make their entrance or “Chain of Fools” when another bad decision by Odysseus decimates even more of his crew. ‘It’s all over the map, but they’re great songs that people know, but they’ll also help tell the story,’ Walker says. ‘And if we can hit the main points that help to make the tale more accessible to those who don’t know it, that’s always a bonus.'”
Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, a premier Southern California cultural center and historic landmark, kicks off June 2019 with comedy, music and fun when the Los Angeles-based Troubadour Theater Company performs a two-night run of its original production The Odd-Essy for an Orange County audience.
The Odd-Essy is a comic spin on Homer’s classic Greek drama. The ancient tale of a war hero who battles mystical creatures and faces the wrath of the gods on his long journey home to his family will be modernized with screwball dialogue, slapstick antics, and silly songs. The production is directed by the Troubies’ leader and chief clown (he actually did start his career as a circus clown) Matt Walker.
The production of The Odd-Essy at Casa Romantica will run for two nights only, on Thursday, June and Friday, June 7. The production is appropriate for all ages, although the humor is intended to appeal to adults and teenagers.
