Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens is proud to reopen our doors to our historic site after months of limiting our site to our garden areas only. To celebrate this historic moment, we have created new ways to experience Casa Romantica and all it has to offer. With enhanced safety features, required mask policies, and new exciting tour experiences, Casa Romantica is a safe and fun outing for your family.
“Our community was so appreciative of the content that we created to bring art and culture into their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that we have fully reopened, we’re adapting the best parts of our online experiences to enhance in-person experiences — not just for our cultural programs, but also for daily visitors,” said Casa Romantica Executive Director Amy Behrens. “It’s about recognizing more holistically what Casa Romantica represents — preserving a record of culture that has shaped us as a stage for contemporary cultural experiences in a beautiful and welcoming home.”
Top 3 new things to do at Casa Romantica
- A new art exhibition by Christine Nguyen titled “Constellations of the Blue Sun Moon Mountain”
Previously launched as a virtual art exhibition, Christine Nguyen’s visual art installation Constellations of the Blue Sun Moon Mountain is now on-view to the public through April 11, 2021 in our Art Gallery. Christine Nguyen’s work is created using cyanotype, an early 19th century process where prints are exposed to sunlight that becomes a distinctive blue-toned color along with plant materials that were also used to create shapes in these pieces.
- Upgraded self-guided tour including QR stops throughout the property
Newly installed QR codes along the self-guided tour path will include exclusive content such as virtual performances, interviews, and informational guides. Using a camera phone to open the QR codes in designated areas will show digital videos featuring entertainment from our cultural events or informative videos with our beloved Casa volunteers.
- New garden and ocean themed sensory bins for our youngest visitors
Casa Romantica has also expanded upon offering safe, hands-on activities for all ages. The previously available activity backpacks for school aged children have been updated and come in three themes: art, photography, and the historic tile in the home. In addition, there are now sensory bins available to checkout, giving little ones a chance to explore and get creative during their visit.
Admission is $5 through contactless payment via card or cash at the front entrance. All proceeds support the 501(c)3 nonprofit’s preservation and programs that benefit the community. Casa Romantica members, children under age 13, and active military with ID receive free admission.
