Casa Romantica is proud to present our next Casa Vibes performer, Carter Reeves. There’s no one better for a summer concert than his warm and enticing music with our amazing views of the Pacific Ocean on our Ocean Terrace. Learn more about Carter Reeves, his music, and his career in our written interview below!
How would you describe your music style? Are there any particular artists that have influenced your music?
Hmmm.. I tend to call it something like “indie-pop surf rock” – my style seems to change by the day, so I never really have a great answer for that question. What I do know is it’s warm, it’s sunny and it feels good. I grew up listening to a ton of Jack Johnson, Kid Cudi and Sublime, all of whom have seeped into my music in one way or another.
This is your first concert back since the pandemic! How are you feeling about performing again?
Very ecstatic! Gonna be amazing to get back on stage and shake off the rust. We’re about to have a daaaaaamn good time!
How long have you been playing music?
I was singing around the house driving my parents crazy since about 4 years old, but really only started taking it seriously about 12 years ago. Since then I’ve been a mediocre guitar, bass and keys player. I can whip out “Wonderwall” much to everyone at the bonfire’s dismay, and play a fun little show, but beyond that I haven’t truly dove into any instruments besides my voice.
What are some highlights of your career?
Ooooh, well – I played Red Rocks a few years back, with my old duo Aer, which was an incredible time. I also got to tour Europe a bit, which seems so surreal that my music could take me halfway across the globe.
What’s next for you?
A bunch of new music and video content, as well as some shows up my sleeve. Going to keep this ball rolling as long as I can! It’s such a fun journey. On top of that, I will have just released an EP for a reggae-pop side project of mine called Surfer Girl. Keep an ear out!
Describe your perfect day.
First things first, somehow find a way to teleport. Hit dawn patrol in Bali, or actually some remote reef break no one without teleportation can access. Breakfast in Paris, followed by some diving in the Great Barrier Reef, take a nap and then rip lunch and some hangs in NYC with some old friends, before zipping to Tokyo for a night of sushi and karaoke.
What are you listening to right now?
Khruangbin always.
What advice do you have for young artists struggling to find their creative voice?
The gap between who you want to be, and who you genuinely are can be pretty far sometimes. It’s a journey to close that gap. So don’t be afraid to try EVERYTHING. Make some polka, make some metal, make some RnB, make some reggae, do it all, find what you sincerely connect with most, hone that voice and style in, release some music, and don’t stop!
What can guests expect from your concert?
A fun, raw good time. We’re not child prodigies, we’re not orchestral maestros, axe shredders or even crispy crooners – we’re just some people having a good time, trying to spread that energy with anyone who witnesses us.
What excites you about performing at Casa Romantica?
I’m beyond stoked about playing somewhere so rich in history, with incredible views. I think my music will pair perfectly with the breeze and salty air of San Clemente. I may never leave. The vibes will be right, and I just hope to accompany them to the best of my ability!
