The Bloom of Time is an enchanting floral company that was started in 2012 by husband and wife Jed and Adrienne Moore. Their passion to create beautiful art through florals is why they started their business and their expertise has helped brides create incredible looks for their wedding day. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Adrienne to talk about floral design trends, the top 3 considerations for wedding florals, and inspiration sources.
Tell us about your business The Bloom of Time?
We are a boutique floral design studio, providing full-service floral design for events, both large and small. Events are our creative passion— the venue is like a canvas that we get to paint, running wild with florals that make the occasion that much more beautiful!
As a small business, the pandemic compelled us to diversify into everyday florals and local deliveries, and we have loved watching this side of our business bloom as we can now continue to provide florals for our clients long past their wedding day, into their new chapters as newlyweds, parents, homeowners, and more!
When should a bride book their floral designer?
Ideally, as soon as you book your venue is a great time to book us! With the recent rush of weddings, we’ve been booking around 9-12 months in advance. It’s always a good idea to reach out early so you have more vendor options, and can get an idea of how much to budget for those dream floral designs you have in mind.
What are the TOP 3 things to consider for wedding floral designs?
The seasonality of blooms should be a core aspect of your design! There are beautiful flowers available at any time of year, but if you are in love with a specific flower, it’s worth researching to see when it’s in season, even BEFORE you decide on a date with your venue. If you’re a peony lover, then it’s best to get married in May, June, or early July. If you are crazy about dahlias, then June-November are going to be the best months to take advantage of those beauties.
Inspiration photos are a great tool to communicate your vision. We love working with client-provided photos – whether from our portfolio or gathered online – since it helps us hone in on specific styles of arranging that speak to you. Narrow it down to the top 3-5 images that resonate with you most– less really is more here!
Prioritize effectively when you’re working on a budget. We recommend choosing 1 or 2 places for statement florals, like a stunning ceremony design to frame the most important aspect of the wedding. During cocktail hour, you can re-use it as a photo op for guests. Need to downsize your budget for some areas? Allocate less for placements where guests don’t spend much time, like escort card tables.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Everywhere! I keep a journal so I can jot down ideas as they come. Everyday places, people, art, fashion, and our local and global culture are constant sources of inspiration for me. It’s so inspiring to see passionate people using their talent to turn the world around them into something better. No matter what industry you choose to blaze a trail in, people who are working tirelessly for the right reasons and throwing all their passion behind something they deeply believe in is what I find truly inspiring and look to emulate in my own career.
What floral trend are you currently loving?
I love seeing fruit styled with florals these days. Blood oranges, black or green grapes, papayas, pomegranates, pears – whatever is in season and looks beautiful with your palette is fair game! It’s so fun to style an arrangement on the fireplace mantle with some fresh florals and candles or work it into a sweetheart table design.
I also love when clients embrace locally grown florals in their wedding designs. The global floral trade was permanently impacted by the pandemic, and using a mix of imports and what’s available locally in your flower choices allows us to manifest the beauty of floral design in a way that speaks to the current state of the floral industry as well as the carbon footprint that the industry as a whole is responsible for. I think the floral trade will see a rise in demand for locally grown products as awareness grows with regard to climate change, and while imports will remain a huge aspect of the floral trade, it’s important to embrace the growth and development of more locally accessible blooms.
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
Just after the ceremony when the bride and groom walk back down the aisle and look at each other with so much joy, excitement, and relief on their faces that they finally DID it—that’s a really special moment!!
Can you walk us through the florals in Julia’s and Emmanuel’s wedding (shown below)? They are stunning! What process is taken to create a look like this?
Julia’s and Emmanuel’s wedding was one of the more memorable ones we designed in 2019. Julia’s vision evolved a ton in the months leading up to her wedding. The subdued mauve palette she initially went for transformed into a bright and Latin-infused design full of energy and color! We incorporated fresh-styled fruit and a few tropical accents that made the design feel unique and special.
What advice do you have for brides at Casa Romantica?
Casa Romantica is already so stunning, really anything goes as far as design! I love how versatile the Casa is—it can take on a bright and energetic color scheme, or something more subtle and monochromatic can look really elegant too. We always encourage couples not to be afraid to take a little risk and do something out of the box that inspires them in terms of design. A high-impact ceremony floral installation with the incredible ocean view as a backdrop is always a good idea.
