Learn about our latest Casa Vibes artist, Victoria Bailey the Honky Tonk Woman!
Victoria Bailey is a Huntington Beach-based country music artist. The classic country singer-songwriter was surrounded by music in her household from an early age. From her drumming father’s rock ‘n’ roll band practices to her mom playing the narrative-driven songbooks of folk icons like Cat Stevens and James Taylor, Bailey was naturally drawn to music and the art of storytelling. Deeply influenced by Country music’s reigning queens, Bailey’s songwriting remains true to its roots with all roads leading back to heartfelt stories. From barn-burning ballads and cowboy laments to straight-from-the-heart love songs, Bailey offers up a thematic collection of originals and classic covers. She found a sense of community very early on by playing honky tonks and bars which allowed the opportunity to cut her teeth on the craft of traditional country music.
On June 16, Victoria Bailey will be performing for our Casa Vibes which showcases up-and-coming local performers on our beautiful Ocean Terrace. Dance and sing with the bands and enjoy the view of the ocean at sunset. The series is underwritten by Tony Nachman and by Lew Avera.
Read our interview below to learn more about Victoria Bailey, her inspirations, and her favorite part of being a performer!
Who is your musical inspiration?
Growing up, I was surrounded by a lot of good folk records from Carole King to James Taylor to Cat Stevens… these records will always be rooted in my heart as inspiration. As I grew older and became super into Country music, a lot of my songwriting has also been inspired by the greats like Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, and Merle Haggard to name a few. My dad is also a rock musician, so I really grew up submerged in a home that was filled with all genres of music, which I’m really grateful for.
What projects do you have coming up this year?
I am currently in the studio working on my next full-length record. It has been a few years since the release of my debut record, “Jesus, Red Wine & Patsy Cline”, so I am just really over the moon to share this new chapter of my music with the world.
What is your favorite thing about performing for a live audience?
It is so life-giving in so many ways. Nothing compares to the feeling. Whether it’s two people or 200… it fills me up completely. It’s such a vulnerable, beautiful space to be able to perform something so personal through songs. I can’t imagine my life without it.
What is your go-to album?
My all-time favorite record is probably Sheryl Crow’s “Tuesday Night Music Club”. I grew up on that record and she really had a big impact on me wanting to be a songwriter.
What is your artistic process when creating music?
There is not really a specific process for me. Songs come to me sporadically and I kind of just wait for that feeling. I really have to set aside the time and space to dive into a new song and I usually take it and sit in a room with a ton of snacks and candy and wait until it’s done.
