Wonder what’s blooming at the Casa as fall begins? Well, beautiful blooms always overfill Casa Romantica’s gardens! One of the best parts of our gardens is that with the changing seasons and plants, the grounds always look different. Learn about some of the plants that are currently blooming below.
Fall Blooms
Bougainvillea
The official city flower! Bougainvillea is a genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes, and trees belonging to the four o’clock family, Nyctaginaceae. It is native to eastern South America, found in Brazil, west of Peru, and south of southern Argentina. You can find it in Casa Romantica’s West Terrace.
Snapdragon
Dragon flowers or snap flowers are in the Antirrhinum genus of plants. The flowers resemble the face of a dragon that opens and closes its mouth when laterally squeezed. They come in all different colors! You can find them all around Casa Romantica but especially in our Courtyard!
Coreopsis
Coreopsis or “Tickseed,” is a slender, 1-2 ft., sometimes taller, annual with pinnately compound foliage tickseed is known for its small but abundant yellow flowers, “painted” maroon near the center. It is pollinator-friendly and also a source of yellow and red dyes! You can find it in Casa Romantica’s Butterfly Garden.
Monstera Deliciosa
Monstera deliciosa, the Swiss cheese plant or split-leaf philodendron is a species of flowering plant native to tropical forests of southern Mexico, south to Panama. Also, they improve indoor air quality and their fruits taste like candy. You can find it in Casa Romantica’s Courtyard!
Plectranthus
Plectranthus or “Spurflower” is a genus of about 85 species of flowering plants from the sage family, Lamiaceae, found mostly in southern and tropical Africa and Madagascar. This plant is known especially as a natural remedy for the common cold! You can find it in Casa Romantica’s Courtyard.
