About the Exhibition
This exhibition presents the works of Mexican artist Lourdes Villagómez, who explores the pre-Hispanic deities of Mexico and fuses them with contemporary Mexican culture in her art. Through her unique style and creative approach, Villagómez brings these ancient deities to life and invites us to see them in a new light and with a modern understanding. Her contemporary interpretations demonstrate the resilience and adaptability of Mexican culture, and the power of art to bridge the past and the present.
With this exhibition, Villagómez aims to celebrate diversity and the power of cultural exchange to build a stronger, more inclusive society. By embracing the unique cultural traditions of Mexican Americans and honoring their contributions to the city, we can create a more vibrant and connected community that celebrates the richness of our shared history and traditions.
The Power of Reconciliation aims to understand the traditional knowledge and teachings of Indigenous beliefs fused with the European Catholic view creating a unique culture that is today’s Mexico. Villagómez with this exhibit emphasizes the importance of storytelling and oral traditions in passing down knowledge and preserving cultural identity.
