Steven Vanhauwaert will be playing a solo recital at Casa Romantica on May 26th. The artist has an impressive list of performances to his name, with venue titles as familiar as the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles and as exotic as concert halls in Brussels and Beijing.
Read below for some interesting trivia about the man behind the piano.
1. His native tongue is French… and Dutch… and German
Vanhauwaert is a native of Belgium, where there are three official languages: French, Dutch, and German. English is also commonly spoken. Vanhauwaert came to the United States because of an opportunity for post-graduate studies at the University of California, and while there, met the woman that was to become his wife. A musical career flourished for him in Los Angeles, and Vanhauwaert has kept a home in the South Bay ever since. He returns to Belgium often for tours and personal visits.
2. No one musician tops his list of influences
“My biggest influence – as a person, as a musician, as an artist – is the interaction with people, ” said concert pianist Steven Vanhauwaert in a recent interview with Easy Reader News. “There’s nothing that I like more than going to a country that I don’t know or a city that I don’t know and just sitting somewhere, having coffee, and just watching, just observing people – how they walk, how they talk, what they do.”
3. He performs for families
Vanhauwaert is passionate about sharing his enthusiasm for music with others, and particularly with children. He has observed that music is not taught in quantity at many public schools. Whether playing in a chamber quartet, a large symphony, or in a solo recital like his May 26th performance at Casa Romantica, Vanhauwaert will make sure all of his audience is exposed to – and excited about – the benefits of listening and playing.
