Interview Questions
What has been the most memorable moment of your career?
I’ve had several memorable moments in my career but I suppose one that sticks out is a beautiful way performing as a soloist with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir at the 2nd Inauguration of President Barack Obama. It felts so overwhelming and fulling to lend my voice to such a monumentally historic event.
What is an unexpected life lesson that you have learned from being a vocalist?
One of the most unexpected life lessons I’ve learned as a vocalist is that the mind, the heart and the voice must be in alignment in order to experience true vocal empowerment both on and offstage.
Casa Romantica is a unique venue, what are you most excited about performing here?
Casa Romantica seems like a place that invites an open heart from its audience members. For that reason I’m most excited about performing music from my latest album Intuition: Songs from the Minds of Women as the re-imaginings of these tunes are sure to appeal to the open heart and mind of the listener.
How did music education or opportunities to perform change your life?
Education has always been of great importance to me. Both my mother and my grandmother are educators and I have found that by teaching others what I have learned as a vocalist, I further solidify the skills and takeaways that I have experienced in life every time one of my students has a vocal breakthrough.
What advice do you give to young artists finding their voice?
My advice to young artists finding their voice is to stand in their authenticity on and offstage; to Know themselves, Be themselves, and Own themselves.
