Artist Levi Ponce believes in the power of murals to change communities. Starting in 2012, he has transformed miles of blighted urban corridors into vibrant open-air art galleries, displaying murals painted by his own hand as well as by local community members. Ponce has created murals all over Los Angeles County, throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Turkey.
On June 20, 219, Ponce unveils a new ocean-themed mural at Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens inspired by the coastal community. The mural is the cornerstone of the institution’s annual Casa Coastal programming, which celebrates the art, history and ecology of the California coast.
Casa Romantica interviewed Levi Ponce to learn why he believes public art is so important, how he changed the face of urban communities, and what his top-secret art-making habits are!
