Caro Pierotto performs on Main Stage at Toast to the Casa: Adventure Awaits!
Casa Romantica’s imminent annual fundraiser Toast to the Casa is known for our superb theming. Toast to the Casa’s 2021 theme, Adventure Awaits!, celebrates the organization’s bright future by inviting guests to adventure around the world, visiting exotic destinations featuring cuisine, exhibitions, and performances experienced through the glamorous lens of mid-century air travel. The era-appropriate destinations include London, Rio De Janeiro, Waikiki, and Bombay.
That theming shines through with our entertainment, including our Main Stage performer Caro Pierotto and her Bossa Nova band. Caro Pierotto’s presence is felt as soon as she strikes her first note, and her music has found audiences all over the globe. She sings originals and covers in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. With a captivating vintage voice and a repertoire that includes samba, forró, reggae, soul, and pop, Caro Pierotto defies labels and expresses her art without musical borders in genres, always focusing on spreading love, hope, and healing through her music. She has toured in Indonesia, France, Portugal, Mexico, Canada, United Kingdom, Ecuador, and Colombia, and she worked with world-renowned producer Pharrell Williams for the movie Trash by acclaimed director Stephen Daldry. Ahead of her performance, read about her style as a performing artist in the interview below.
Caro, you have an incredible range in the repertoire. What is your favorite to perform?
My favorite kind of music to perform is the good kind 🙂 The kind that makes my heart feel something. Bossa Nova is one of those genres, and it has a special place in my heart. I really connect to it and I feel that is where I most truthfully express my “Brazilianess.” Plus, no one ever feels worse after listening to a Bossa Nova song, ever. It always feels like a warm hug or a sunny afternoon somewhere.
Your most recent album, Em Português, recently made it on the Grammy Ballot for Best Global Music Album. Congratulations! It features a fun, vibrant collection of music. How did you piece this album together?
“Em Português” is my first solo album as an Artist. I allowed myself to experiment and try different approaches to producing the songs. It became a fun collection of Brazilian rhythms, however, all the songs come from the same place. My voice and my positive/hopeful songwriting are the constant thread that links them together.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I get inspiration from my daily life. From what’s happening around me, what I’m witnessing or living. I have to be careful and selective as to what I listen to, as it usually becomes “source” of material for future songs.
If you could describe your music in three words, what would they be?
Ear-candy, swayable and memorable.
What excites you about performing at Casa Romantica at Toast to the Casa: Adventure Awaits?
What I’m excited about playing at Casa Romantica is the fact that I’m putting a whole show together for this event. I’m bringing the best Brazilian musicians with me and we’re gonna take you all on a trip to magic times of the late 1960s.
