Casa Coastal is our summer series in which we bring the beautiful island of Catalina – whose majesty we see from our Ocean Terrace every day – even closer and more in depth through an exhibition, guest lectures, and tile-making.
For our last Casa Coastal event of the summer, we’re pleased to introduce:
- Dr. Gonzo on Trapper John, M.D., one of T.V.’s most popular medical dramas
- Chandler from North Shore, the cult classic surf movie
- Flynn from Chicago!, the touring play
- Gregory Harrison, real-life native of Catalina Island and son of a ship’s captain
Actor Gregory Harrison makes a special appearance at Casa Romantica this August 4 for Casa Coastal. You’ll be entertained by his fisherman’s tales and true legends as he takes a rollicking look at the ‘curious island off the coast of southern California.’
Harrison said in an interview with Parade magazine: “My father was the captain of the glass bottom boat [in Avalon]. My grandfather was the captain of the glass bottom boat. And I was destined to be the third in that line. But they shot a movie on my dad’s boat in 1965 called The Glass Bottom Boat with Doris Day and Rod Taylor, and I sat there on the boat with my dad while they filmed for a few weeks and watched them film it. And that changed my life.”
