Toast Inspirations Interview with Kylie Travis
- How did you come up with the Toast theme?
- I think the idea of Hollywood in that era is interesting. From a film perspective they were creating new film techniques and technology, and from a business perspective they were growing and creating jobs at an unprecedented rate. From an entertainment perspective movie theater goers were turning to Hollywood film storytelling as escapism from such turbulent times from the Great Depression to multiple world wars, which deeply resonates with me. Personally, I have observed that people (including myself) turn to arts in times of crisis. They escape into something greater even if it is just for the length of a movie.
- What can guests expect for entertainment?
- This year we have the unique opportunity to use a new venue like the historic Casino San Clemente to be the centerpiece of entertainment. Along with that we have amazing use of film, live dancing and Lizzy and the Triggermen on the main stage so guests feel transported to that time.
- This is the first year Toast to the Casa will be held off site. How will it differ? How will it be the same?
- Although I think Casa Romantica is the perfect venue, the Casino was so generous in donating their space and allowing us to still have that same unique historic space that people know and love.
- What are you most looking forward to at Toast to the Casa?
- With it being mine and Jacqui’s first Toast as the Executive Team, I am looking forward to connecting with all of our supporters during the evening. We have endured a lot this past year and none of it would have been possible without all of the people that will be attending. Also, our entertainment lineup is one of my favorites including tap dancing by Dante Lara and Jazz music by Lizzy and the Triggermen. Both of these entertainers have performed at the Casa in prior years and also performed at the Casa during one of our other most challenging times for our 2020 Toast.
