San Clemente, CA – Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, a premier Southern California cultural center and historic landmark, kicks off June 2019 with comedy, music and fun when the Los Angeles-based Troubadour Theater Company performs a two-night run of its original production The Odd-Essy for an Orange County audience.
About Troubadour Theater Company
Troubadour Theater Company, affectionally dubbed “Troubies” by its fans, is a no-holds-barred, slapstick-driven ensemble of actors, musicians, and comedians that has been performing for audiences throughout Southern California and beyond since 1995. They are known for their fast-paced, laugh-filled adaptations of classic plays, literature and film. Troubies have put their spin on all genres of classic tales, such as A Midsummer Saturday Night’s Fever Dream and Fleetwood MacBeth, but thanks to commissions from the Getty Villa, the troupe has branched out to the Roman and Greek classic plays such as Oedipus the King, Mama (with music from Elvis). They have received numerous accolades, including a two-time honor for Best Season at LA Stage Alliance’s Ovation Awards.
Press Accolades for Troubadour Theater Company
“…the truest hallmark of any Troubadour show [is] an audience laughing so hard it can hardly breathe.” – LA Times
“…the weirdest and most innovative show likely to grace local theaters.” – OC Weekly
“…Bring a change of underwear, you may wet yourself…” – OC Register (really, they said this)
“…pure enjoyment that catches adults and small children laughing at the same jokes.” – Backstage West
About The Odd-Essy
The Odd-Essy is a comic spin on Homer’s classic Greek drama. The ancient tale of a war hero who battles mystical creatures and faces the wrath of the gods on his long journey home to his family will be modernized with screwball dialogue, slapstick antics, and silly songs. The production is directed by the Troubies’ leader and chief clown (he actually did start his career as a circus clown) Matt Walker.
The production of The Odd-Essy at Casa Romantica will run for two nights only, on Thursday, June and Friday, June 7. The production is appropriate for all ages, although the humor is intended to appeal to adults and teenagers.
