San Clemente, CA – Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, a nonprofit southern California cultural center, is pleased to announce a solo recital by cellist Paul Wiancko. Casa Classical: Paul Wiancko will be performing Thursday, January 26, from 7pm to 9pm with a repertoire comprised of classics and his own compositions.
“Paul Wiancko is the excellent example of a professional musician influenced by Southern California’s art scene,” says Casa Romantica Executive Director Berenika Schmitz. “Now, Wiancko himself is an influencer as a cellist and as a composer not only in Southern California but in the United States. We are more than honored to hear his performance.”
Paul Wiancko
Paul Wiancko is a multi-faceted artist ranging from a cellist, composer, and a collaborator. Raised in San Clemente and local to Southern California, Wiancko is known to have turned his University of Southern California dorm room into a production studio, creating productions ranging from orchestral arrangements to gospel funk tunes. After and during his education at the Colburn School, Paul has notably performed the Lutoslawski Cello Concerto with the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra and has collaborated with Midori, Yo-Yo Ma, and the Guarneri Quartet. After moving to New York in 2009, Paul joined the award-winning Harlem String Quartet, with which he spent 3 years performing across the globe. Currently, he is a member of the electro-acoustic chamber ensemble Bird’s Eye Trio.
As a composer, Paul Wiancko has composed many works for notable musicians like Grammy Award winning Parker Quartet and the Met soprano Susanna Phillips. He was also commissioned as the composer for Caramoor in the summer of 2016. One of Paul’s large-scale compositions, “Tales from Bent City” is a highly virtuosic concerto for cello, orchestra, and electronics with influences from hip-hop, improvisation, and the late 19th century. During his recital, the audience will be able to hear his surprising, fun, fresh, and innovative works on his 2010 Mario Miralles violoncello.
