San Clemente, CA – Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, a nonprofit southern California cultural center, will begin offering D. Yoder Family Sundays in 2017. D. Yoder Family Sundays will enable free admission for all visitors to Casa Romantica between 10 am and 2 pm on the first Sunday of each month for activities and a noon-time program thematically based on Casa Romantica’s Casa Captivating programs for all ages. Visitors will also enjoy the beauty of Casa Romantica’s treasured ocean bluff home and gardens built by San Clemente’s founder, Ole Hanson.
Yoder Family Sundays are made possible by the generosity of Ms. June Yoder, and will be established to honor the memory of David Yoder, the son of Paul and June Yoder. David passed away in 2011 at the age of 46, leaving his wife Karen and children Molly and Lucas.
The June Yoder family commitment to Casa Romantica began at its inception. A significant contribution during the Capital Campaign in 2007 included the dedication of $25,000 to the Casa Romantica central courtyard garden, naming it the Paul A. Yoder Courtyard in memory of her husband. Since then, Ms. June Yoder has continued her valued support to Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens in many ways, and has been integral to its growth.
“Casa Romantica is a rich source of knowledge and community memories for San Clemente and south Orange County, said Casa Romantica Executive Director Berenika Schmitz. “Providing free access to this resource is a fulfillment of Casa Romantica’s mission to provide arts and culture for everyone, and we are thrilled that Ms. June Yoder, through her philanthropy, has made this a possibility.”
The inaugural Sunday will be held on January 8th due to the New Year holiday. The opening celebration will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music, cake, and refreshments. D. Yoder Family Sundays will be held on the first Sunday of each month for the remainder of the year. A sampling of events includes an interactive music exhibit with several upright pianos, an ocean conservation lecture, plein air watercolor painting workshops, a historical trivia contest, live classical and contemporary music, dance performances, and docent-led tours of the home and gardens.
Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and is the historic home of the founder of the City of San Clemente. Casa Romantica provides programs for all ages in arts, music, history, and horticulture and is a premier Southern California cultural center. https://www.casaromantica.org
