Scott and Jenny’s Story
As many modern love stories begin, Scott and Jenny met online. Coincidentally, they were both living and working in San Diego just minutes from each other. Although their paths had likely crossed unknowingly, it took an online dating app for the pair to finally meet. Scott admired Jenny’s “outdoors-y adventurous spirit” and she admired his love of the ocean and mountains.
“From sailing and paddle boarding the Mission Bay to shredding fresh powder at Mammoth Mountain our love grew leaps and bounds.” Jenny recalls.
The Engagement
In October 2016, Scott and Jenny planned a camping trip up to Big Sur. Unbeknownst to Jenny, Scott was secretly planning his proposal to her with the help of Jenny’s best friend. One evening near the end of their trip, Scott suggested that they take pictures of the sunset at a State Park near their campsite.
“The sun was setting over the coast and McWay Falls, which is one of two waterfalls in the United States that cascade into the ocean. It’s absolutely stunning to see, and the backdrop was magical.” Jenny recalls.
As the sun set and the last few visitors left the lookout point, the couple found themselves alone. In that perfect moment, Scott proposed. Jenny, “shocked, excited and over-the-moon-happy,” screamed “YES!”
Scott (who was well-prepared) pulled out a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
Discovering Casa Romantica
The couple moved in together when they were dating in San Diego, but just before they were engaged, Jenny purchased a dental practice in Orange County. They settled into a new home just a few blocks from Casa Romantica.
As the place where they would begin their married life, there was no doubt in Scott and Jenny’s minds that they wanted to celebrate their big day in San Clemente. They envisioned being married in an intimate setting with a perfect ocean backdrop and salty breeze. After searching online, Jenny discovered Casa Romantica.
“I hadn’t visited the Casa, but had seen it often since we moved here. Once we walked through the keyhole door, I was sold. No other place measured up to its beauty, so we quickly booked our date.”
Turning Dreams into Reality
When picking rentals and choosing décor, the couple wanted to create a look and feel that was a mix of bohemian beach and desert vibes, with a dash of adventure.
They chose bamboo chairs which complimented both the ocean backdrop for the ceremony and the crisp white linens at the reception.
They chose a rustic sweetheart table, which their florist, Wildflower of San Clemente, covered in lush greenery that matched the peacock chairs brought from the couple’s home.
Wildflower also created stunning centerpieces filled with proteas, succulents, roses and feathers.
Much of the wedding decor was made and painted by the groom himself — including a beautiful oil painting of the couple which they hung above the mantle in Casa Romantica’s Main Salon. The painting was Jenny’s favorite part of the décor.
The Wedding Day
Keeping with Scott’s family’s tradition of five generations, Jenny carried lace gloves and a handkerchief with her bouquet. “It was an honor to share this tradition with the women of my new family, and I hope my future daughters will do the same.”
Following the ceremony and the newlywed’s dreamy first dance on the Ocean Terrace, guests gathered in the courtyard for a memorable dinner catered by Iva Lee’s and ice cream sandwiches from Chunk ‘n’ Chip.
Happily Ever After
One of the things Scott and Jenny love most about having their wedding day at Casa Romantica is being able to visit the property whenever they want to relive their memories – and to make new ones. Every day, when Scott and Jenny take their puppy Norman on a walk down to the San Clemente pier, they look up to see Casa Romantica on the cliff. When Norman stays home, the couple visits the Casa’s lush gardens and Spanish arches. “The view is just spectacular. It showcases the best that San Clemente has to offer.”
