Ian and Lizzy met while they were both working at a Whole Foods market in Colorado. Lizzy had noticed her coworker who was constantly joking around with the other cashiers, and one day she asked a mutual acquaintance to introduce her to Ian. During her next shift, Ian came in as a customer and waited in Lizzy’s line just so he could talk to her. “He looked so handsome, and my stomach was flipping because I was so anxious to finally be talking to him!” recalls Lizzy. They continued to get to know one another on-duty, and a few weeks later, Ian asked Lizzy out on a date.
The couple eventually relocated from Colorado to San Diego and found a home together. On Lizzy’s birthday, they celebrated with dinner and a leisurely stroll by the harbor. At the end of their walk, Ian gave Lizzy her birthday card. It was sweet, but not extraordinary — until she read at the bottom: “P.S. Look down…” and realized that Ian was down on one knee with a beautiful ring.
Lizzy said yes, and the next chapter of their journey began.
When it came time to look for a venue, Lizzy knew they would not have to look very far. For years, Lizzy’s mother had talked about “the most beautiful wedding she had ever been to” at Casa Romantica, and after getting engaged, it was the first place that they scheduled for a tour. When Lizzy and Ian saw the property for themselves, enraptured by the ocean view, the historical prestige, and the versatility of each space in the venue, they knew it was the perfect place for their wedding.
Lizzy and Ian both wanted to keep their ceremony simple with just one maid of honor and one best man. They also wanted to be sure to capture the feeling of falling in love in the mountains and chose to be married by a close friend from Colorado who had been there since the day they fell in love.
After the ceremony, the couple set aside time to be alone together and enjoy their newlywed bliss in the privacy of Ole Hanson’s office and living suite before engaging in photos, dinner, dancing, and celebrating. Lizzy and Ian both agreed that it was the one of their favorite moments of the day. Lizzy told us, “It was truly wonderful to be able to sit with Ian after our ceremony and just breathe. The moment was brief, but I’ll forever cherish those first few minutes we shared as husband and wife.”
Lizzy attributes the style and design of her big day to her coordinator, Amy Beck, from All in the Detail Design. Amy took Lizzy’s inspiration — the beautiful, vibrant colors of Colorado wildflowers — and brought the wedding design a rustic, royal vibe with rich gold and jewel-tone accents, set off by a hue of blue that resembled the serene California coastline.
Shannon with Cargo Creative delivered a cascading bridal bouquet that looked like it had been freshly picked from a field of wildflowers. Hot pink, bright orange, and deep maroon flowers were added to flowing greenery as centerpieces to complement the dining tables.
Having recently relocated, the couple paid homage to the place where their love story began as well as their current home, by naming each table after their favorite biking trails in Colorado and San Diego.
In true California fashion, guests dined “al fresco” in the beautiful outdoor courtyard surrounded by palm trees and enjoyed an impeccable meal catered by 24 Carrots. During dinner, guests watched as Ian and Lizzy had their first dance as husband and wife and soaked up the golden hour glow.
Just before the dance party began in the Main Salon, Lizzy and Ian cut their “cake.” In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, the newlyweds opted for a fun “cookie cake” from Great Dane Bakery. Guests were treated to a fun and unique dessert bar out on the Ocean Terrace which was filled with an assortment of different cookies to enjoy.
Afterward, The Lucky Devils Band played inside the Main Salon while guests danced until the end of the evening.
The newlyweds were overwhelmed by the genuine happiness and love that they felt throughout their special day.
Being surrounded by so many of their family and friends was an everlasting moment that they wish they said they will cherish forever. Congratulations Lizzy and Ian! We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!
